The Malta Table Tennis Marathon is now in its 10th consecutive year. This year it will commence on Thurdsay 7th December till Sunday 10th December, amounting to a total of 75 hours of non-stop Table Tennis. Proceeds will be donated to Richmond Foundation for the restructuring of Villa Chelsea. The venue chosen for this year's edition of the marathon is De La Salle College.
The Marathon’s primary aim is that of helping others in need by means of an activity. This will help the participants to grow and develop furthur. There will be approximately 100 players and 100 helpers, all of whom are youth volunteers.
The Marathon will start on Thursday late afternoon with a Mass as thanksgiving. This will be followed by the official opening and the first service. The Marathon will come to an end on Sunday evening. There will be shows to entertain the visitors on every evening which varies from young to well-established singers from the national scene, dancing groups, some fun sketches and also games which involve children. In addition to this there is generally a number of visits from different groups, such as Motorcycles Associations, Scouts and various others.
As a means of marketing the Marathon, we have been producing a number of publicity media varying from flyers and posters to banners and bill-boards. These are accompanied by TV and frequent radio interviews and press releases.
The money is generally collected from the Parish Church Zabbar, from that of Marsascala and also Door-to-Door in various localities. The players are also encouraged to help with the collection of the money, by means of a collection sheet to collect some proceeds before the marathon due to the fact that they would not be able to do so during the marathon. Each player and helper is supplied with a t-shirt and a personilised tag as evidence of the event.
This blog will host information about The Malta Table Tennis Marathon and will be updated regularly.
